chronolysis

Inspired by Michel Jeury's novel le temps incertain (Engl.: chronolysis), this work uses techniques of cutting between different musical ideas as a representation of the jumps in time which play a major role in the book. Despite using an enormous amount of various materials, this work aims at nevertheless maintaining a certain degree of continuity and building larger musical phrases. In the course of the piece, the different musical ideas interact with each other, the identity of each of them slowly dissolving, until they reach a point where only one last impulse remains.
